Inside the DryBar, Flatiron District, NYC

If you’re a curly or kinky-haired lady, you might have heard of the uber-popular salon, DryBar. It’s a boutique salon that specializes in blowouts–no cuts or color. With over 65+ locations, Drybar is a salon that caters to women on the go. With my tightly-coiled strands, I’ve always been in search of a salon that gives me that “dominican style blowout” without all the heat damage. Well my search is over.

Tightly-curled hair

Most naturals already know that although our hair may look tough, it’s actually extremely prone to breakage and heat damage can permanently destroy your curls. I’ve explained my heat-damage, hair horrors in detail on this blog. Anyway, a salon like Drybar was extremely intimidating to me because:

1–I didn’t know if any stylists were experienced in natural hair

and

2–I was nervous about how my hair would like after a blowout.

When I walked through the door of the salon I was immediately greeted by a warm receptionist and was asked if I wanted anything to drink. In other salons, a “drink” meant water or non-sweetened tea. At Drybar, a drink means a mimosa, champagne or wine. Yes–you read that correctly. They serve alcohol–a major win in my book. As I sipped on my mimosa and munched on chocolate stripped cookies, I waited for my name to be called. Within minutes of my scheduled appointment, I was met by a friendly stylist named Allie who escorted me to wash my hair. As we chit-chatted, Allie explained what products she was using on my hair and inquired about what style I wanted once my hair was dry. After being seated in Allie’s chair, she began the process of separating my hair, twisting it into sections and blowing it out.

With a name like Drybar, you may have guessed that it has many aesthetic features of a luxury women’s bar…complete with bar themed names for its hair products. For example,  the heat protectant is named “Hot Toddy,” the soft hold spray is named “Velvet Hammer,” and the treatment oil is called “100 proof.” Cute right?

Allie really took her time with my hair and was gentle with my strands. After my hair was blown out and flat-ironed to perfection, I felt like a new woman. See the results above. I absolutely LOVED my hair! If you follow me on snapchat: @fabfindsforher, you can see how shiny and bouncy my hair came out IRL.Going to Drybar was a definitely an amazing experience that leaves every woman feeling like a celebrity!
