Talking Beauty & Fashion with Nicole Ari Parker!

As you already know, I had the opportunity to do some “girl talk” with famed actress, Nicole Ari Parker, when I attended the Baby Bash and Bling event a few weeks ago. I’ve been a huge Nicole fan ever since her role as Teri on the Showtime series “Soul Food.” We chatted about beauty, style tips and how to keep the groove going in your relationships once you have a family. Here’s what she had to say:

1. Me: For busy moms who may have lost their sense of style after having kids, what are some of your style tips?

Nicole Ari Parker: Accessories! You can go in your closet and make anything look good with accessories. You can take black leggings and a big t-shirt and a gorgeous beaded necklace and some bracelets and you’re ready to go out with your husband. I think every¬† mom should have a stockpile and you can go from high-end to low-end and it all looks good. From H&M to Zara to splurging at Barney’s or Nieman’s. A big bracelet and necklace just work. You can even go to Claire’s and get hooked up.

2. Me: What are some of favorite beauty tips?

Nicole Ari Parker: The first thing I tell people is to keep your skin nice–you must wash it at night..taking off your makeup and putting on a night cream. Night cream to me is just as important as putting on sunscreen, because that’s when your body is healing itself. Some people use vitamin E-oil, some people use something expensive like LaMer. It doesn’t matter. Just wash and moisturize your face before bed. And then…I’m a lipstick girl. Bright lipstick always makes me feel dressed up. A nice red or nice pink. Some girls are eyelash girls, some are eyebrow girls, I’m a lip girl. A big pair of earrings, a necklace and red lips and I’m good to go!

3. Me: Any advice to women who are trying to balance it all–Such as marriage, work and career?

Nicole Ari Parker: When your kids are young, they need to come first. But I think you still need to tell yourself that everything is doable. So it’s about time management… For example, at 6’oclock, exercise by the side of the bed. 7 o’clock make the kids oatmeal and a scrambled egg. Time management or micromanagement can help someone gain control of their day…

4. Me: What are some health tips you follow?

Nicole Ari Parker: Exercise and Water! I believe in supplements…it does help. Water is the answer to a lot of our issues as women.
