Happy Halloween! Okay, I may be a bit premature in saying that, but don’t you just love this season of pumpkin picking, Halloween crafts and family fun? That’s why I was so excited when I found out that my hometown of Long Beach, NY was having a Fall Festival! The festival included spooky arts n crafts, a carousel, petting zoo, pumpkin picking and other activities. I was definitely more excited than my son about picking up a great pumpkin that we could decorate. He was actually scared of the pumpkins, especially the larger sized ones. He also disliked stepping through the straw. It was an interesting day to say the least. Ha!
If you’re like me and plan on doing a few small activities this Halloween, it’s definitely important to keep in mind some precautions, especially with your little ones. I have some great tips from Verizon Wireless that will keep your family happy and safe.
Halloween Safety Tips:
·Keep track of all of your family members during the witching hours with Verizon Family Locator, available on capable devices. The mobile app will display your family members’ whereabouts on an interactive map, so you can monitor your trick-or-treaters’ route.
· Light the night with a flashlight app. When the sun goes down, a flashlight app can light the way from house to house. The bright phone screen will also make your trick-or-treaters more visible to drivers in the neighborhood.
· Spook your friends on social media with Ghost Lens, a ghostly photo and video sharing app. Ghost Lens transforms your photos by changing and layering the transparency to make it appear that a ghost is looming.
· Choose from a number of supernatural sound effects that transform your voice and creep out your colleagues with Voice Changer with Effects.
· Seek out the haunts in your area this Halloween with Haunted Places USA, a database of haunted locations around the United States.
As you can tell, mini-fab is super engaged and excited about technology. We loved trying out these apps on his play phone. His favorite one was definitely the Voice Changer!
I tried out the other spooky apps on the LG G3 smartphone that was sent to me from Verizon. While the phone was definitely sleek and thin, the most drastic feature of the phone is that there aren’t any buttons to push on the side, top or bottom. So how does it work? Well, the power button is actually that big silver button on the back of the phone. I’ll admit, it does take a second to adjust to. But after you get comfortable with the phone, that button will become second nature.
Some Features of the LG G3:
-5.5. Quad HD Display Screen
-13 MP Camera with Laser Autofocus and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) OIS is great for getting a steady and sharp photo.
-Long Lasting Battery Life
-High Quality Resolution
Now a days, everyone likes to document their life and family events with stunning photos and uploading them to social media. If you don’t want to purchase an expensive and bulky professional camera, you can still use your smartphone to take some stellar photos. I enjoyed playing around with the different photo options on the LG G3 like the Burst Mode which is great for action photos. Plus, when I was trying to get the perfect shot, all I had to do was take a photo using Gesture Shutter. Although these particular photos were aimed at being more of a tutorial type, I do have some helpful tips that can take your photos to the next level courtesy of Verizon.
Tip #1: Set the white balance to auto or none: The auto feature allows the camera to read your scene’s color temperature and adjust automatically so your picture accurately captures the colors of the moment.
Tip #2: Turn on HDR (High Dynamic Range): If shadows are dominating your shot or the colors just don’t seem to be as vibrant as they should be, hit the HDR button.
Tip #3: Don’t zoom, crop: If your subject is far away, try snapping a couple of pictures without zooming. You’ll be able to crop when you edit the photo later and the quality will be exponentially better.
Tip #4: Shoot in 4K: 4K, which is also known as Ultra HD, is the new standard in video clarity.
Tip #5: Enable Burst Mode: Lets you take a bunch of photos in rapid succession by holding down the capture button.
Tip #6: Take pictures with your voice: From the camera screen, simply say, “Smile,” “Capture,” “Flash on” or “Record video.”
With Verizon’s 4G LTE service (which is super fast by the way) I was able to upload my Fall Festival adventures to my Instagram and Facebook profiles at lightning speed. Check out the Verizon Wireless site to see more features of the LG G3 smartphone and discover how it can be the right fit for your own family adventures this Halloween!
Disclosure: I was sent the LG G3 from Verizon for review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.
